Yes spread the joy my friend! Meaning you should share the cookies with your loved ones, family, friends, your pet tortoise or hamster, whatever…It's all one love from here on out!

You know, my fiancé used to chide me for going on the paleo diet. She said "the caveman diet" was boring because you can't consume pasta (her fave food), preservatives, rice and other staple foods of most people on this planet.

So when I said to her I wanted to try this paleo cookie recipe, she just scoffed and said it's going to taste "really bland" like most paleo diet meals.

Now, what she didn't know is that I had downloaded a collection of Paleolithic diet cookbooks. I've tried some of the recipes in those cookbooks and they tasted fine. That gave me the confidence to give this paleo cookie recipe a test drive!

You can check out the cookbooks by visiting the link at the bottom of this recipe.

Alright, I apologize for blabbing too much. Here's the paleo cookie recipe. Try it!

You'll need - - > 2 tbs arrowroot powder, 1 cup coconut flakes, ½ cup of maple syrup, ½ tsp organic kelp salt alternative (or just use the regular one if you like), ¼ cup of sesame seeds, ¼ cup of sunflower seeds, ½ cup of finely chopped pecan, 1 tsp of vanilla essence, 4 egg whites

Directions:

(1) Beat the egg whites until stiff peak have formed.

(2) Dry fry coconut flakes, pecan and seeds until they become slightly brown.

Losing Weight on the Paleo Diet

This article details how easy weight loss was when I discovered the Paleo Diet. No hunger, a great sense of well being, and I'm heading towards my target weight with no trouble at all. I'm even having a 'Cheat Day' each week.

A few months ago, I took up running. Started on a Couch 2 5K plan and after 9 weeks was easily running for 30 minutes. I can now run 15 km with relative easy. I found however, and this is not really a surprise, that my few kilos of excess weight was not really disappearing. The fitness industry rants on about how long aerobic sessions are the way to lose weight. It helps but resistance training and modifications to ones eating habits really do the trick.

I did some research on the web and came across Loren Cordain's book, The Paleo Diet. Ordered a copy, liked what I read and duly started to follow the pattern.

I've always been interested in health, fitness and why modern humans succumb to so much illness, disease, obesity, allergies etc. It turns out that we are Stone-Age people living in a modern world of processed food, laziness, poor work environments etc. The human genome has only changed 0.02% in the last 40 thousand years. Those people, of which we are the offspring ate a diet consisting mainly of meat, vegetables, nuts and fruit. They may have eaten some grass seeds (of which wheat is a modern version), but only in very small quantities. Modern use of grains didn't start until 10 thousand years ago with the first farms in the Middle East.

So, modern humans are eating foods that the human body has not evolved to eat. We're poisoning ourselves and shortening our lives. Appreciated, ancient people probably had shorter lifespans, but they were lean and athletic, able to chase animals for long distances. We as modern humans should embrace the diet of old and take advantage of the modern developments in medicine to allow ourselves to live long healthy lives. It's amazing how many people get into their late 60's and for them life is nearly over. Their muscles waste, the stoop, their demeanor is that of a beaten person heading towards death. This is not the way it should be.

The Paleo diet revolves around eating lean meat, fruit and vegetables (not root or starchy veggies) with each meal. Eggs are allowed as are nuts and small amounts of dried fruit. Grains, pulse and dairy are all out. You can have a cheat meal or two per week, but if you have a lot of weight to lose, I'd restrict that to just one. Drink plenty of water. I'd advise using a program like Fitday (free) to monitor all you eat for a couple of weeks to make sure you are getting the calories and nutrients you need. After that just go with the flow.

I eat a lot of stir frys and love them, curries can be made easily. There is wealth of recipes available online, and the book also has plenty.

I will write another article soon going more into depth about how I eat, but I have lost 7 kg with ease over the last 3 months, I was only 7 my desired weight so it was easy. If you're a lot bigger, the weight will shift with ease.

Take a look at the book, consult your doctor if you think you need to, and enjoy easy weight loss with out the hunger.

Paleo Diet Meal Plan – Here's a Paleo Meal Plan That Will Satisfy Even the Fussiest Wooly Mammoths

Repeat after me: "I'm capable of dishing out a sinfully delicious Paleo diet meal plan that will rock the appetite of even the fussiest Wooly mammoths."

That's right! We Paleo diet followers can cook up a storm in the kitchen. You see, I dislike hearing ignorant comments made by people who do not follow this diet. They say we only eat awfully bland Paleo dishes…They are so wrong!

Now, Wooly mammoths from the Paleolithic era have long gone from this world, but we caveman of the 21st century are here and ready to prepare high quality Paleo recipes, right?

So without further ado, here's a very satisfying 2-course Paleo diet meal plan (more Paleolithic recipe resources are included at the end of this piece). If those mighty Wooly mammoths are alive, surely they will lap up these dishes and may even ask for a second serving!

Meal 1 (Appetizer):

Beef and Carrot Curry Soup

½ Cup of coconut milk
1 Large onion
1 stalk of celery
½ Tablespoon of red curry paste
1 Table spoon of olive oil
½ Cups of walnuts
1 ¼ Cups of carrots (diced)
2 Cups of water
A drizzle of honey
A couple of pinches of white pepper

Directions: First you sauté the celery and onion. Next, put in the walnuts and carrots and sauté once again for about 5 minutes. Pour 2 cups of water, close the lid and simmer for about 10 - 15 minutes. Now place them in a blender, pour the coconut milk and blend away until the ingredients become soupy.

Add pepper as well as the curry paste and blend again. Finally, drizzle the soup with some honey and enjoy.

Now let's complete this 2-course Paleo diet meal plan with one of my favorite dishes…

Meal 2 (Main Course):

Scrumptious Paleo Shoulder Pork Roast

A large piece of lean pork shoulder
½ Cup of fresh cilantro (finely chopped)
½ Cup of fresh sage (finely chopped)
½ Cup of fresh parsley (finely chopped)
5 - 7 cloves of finely chopped garlic (I love garlic!)
2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon cumin
2 teaspoons dried oregano
¼ Cup of olive oil

Directions: Place all ingredients (except for the pork shoulder, of course) in a bowl and stir them around for a good couple of minutes. Make sure they are nicely mixed together.

Now, put the lean pork shoulder on the oven and rub the blended ingredients all over it. Massage the meat with those ingredients (man I'm drooling already). Finally roast the shoulder for approximately 40 minutes. I usually cook a pound of shoulder and it takes around 35 - 40 minutes to roast.

Take out from oven and enjoy! They say Paleolithic diet foods are boring? NOOO! The above 2-course Paleo diet meal plan is the real deal my friends.

As promised, here are some more Paleolithic recipe resources for your cooking pleasure. Download cookbooks with over 300 recipes so you can make a huge variety of Paleo diet meal plans. Follow this link to download: http://www.paleorecipecookbooks.info/

Paleo Diet Snacks – Presenting the Quickest Way to Get Heaps of Incredible Paleo Snack Recipes

I used to feel sick of dieting the Paleo way simply because there was a lack of simple and tasty recipes on Paleo diet snacks. Naturally, I turned to the internet for help but alas, surfing for hours online in search of quality Paleolithic diet recipes proved to be futile.

See, I discovered quite a large number of recipes that were supposed to be "Paleo-friendly" from an all-in-one-place recipe website but the problem was…

Those recipes did not adhere to guidelines set by the Paleolithic diet rules!

Now, I understand that some people do not follow the rules vigorously, thus may wish to add one or two non-Paleo food ingredients to enhance the flavor of a particular recipe - but still…

Great tasting Paleo diet snacks recipes were very difficult to find!

Okay to cut a long story short, I finally uncovered a really quick way to obtain heaps of not only snacks, but also Paleo appetizer, main course, dessert and even special sandwich and noodle recipes that can all be prepared without breaking the Paleo guidelines.

Here's how you do it…

What you should do is access a registration-free Paleo diet foods discussion site. The members in discussion/chat sites are very generous and they're always willing to share helpful information including recipes and resources for the benefit of all Paleo diet practitioners

In fact, one of the site members (Special thanks to user name:paleocaveguy82) was so kind enough to point me to a site where I was able to download digital cookbooks containing more than 300 Paleo recipes. Incredible stuff!

Now, I have all sorts of ideas on how to conceive Paleo diet snack recipes that are not only easy to do, but taste wonderful as well.

Anyway, you can also download an entire set of Paleo cookbooks that are chock full of tasty recipes, all in-one-place. Very handy reference so download by following this link: http://www.paleorecipecookbooks.info/

Paleo Diet For Athletes - Caution: You Will Cheat On This Diet, Let's Solve The Problem Now!

Paleo diet for athletes is a handy reference book that should appeal to mostly endurance athletes. See, I'm a recreational bodybuilder and while the book provides a decent general outline of the Paleolithic diet, the program including the nutritional blueprint is actually geared at athletes in endurance sports.

That being said, the Paleo diet for athletes book was still an interesting read, and I highly recommend it to those who have already picked up Loren Cordain's maiden Paleo book called: "The Paleo Diet: Lose Weight and Get Healthy by Eating the Food You Were Designed to Eat."

Whew! What a mouthful!

Okay now, I'm not here to write some kind of highly in-depth Paleo diet for athletes review. You can find numerous reviews of this book on hundreds and thousands of sites.

Instead, my concern is this:

Paleo diet offers many positive benefits, but this diet's cheating rate is extremely high, especially in the first few weeks. And, cheating all too often will result in complete abandonment of this healthy diet.

Let's face it …Paleo meals are boring!

A quick glance at the Paleo diet food list is enough to let you know how bland this dietary regimen can be…

So how do you solve this problem?

The solution is simple. You need to amass TONS of DELICIOUS and SIMPLE to prepare Paleo recipes to ensure your daily meals are always interesting, and can also be dished out in minimum time.

Oh yes! I'm aware that many recipes are included in the Paleo diet for athletes book, but most of them are pretty bland and too elaborate too make.

Alright look, I wanted to give up this diet at first, but I was lucky to stumble onto this website where hundreds of easy and tasty Paleo recipes were offered in an immediately downloadable format.

Now, I can fully commit to this diet because the recipes I obtained from that site are way better than the ones presented in the Paleo diet for athletes book.

Anyway, you can also download those delicious Paleo recipes as the website is still around (at the time of this writing). The ebook set offers a total of 310 recipes! Just follow this link to download:http://www.paleorecipecookbooks.info/

Paleo Diet Menu – How to Locate Lots of Yummy Paleo Diet Menu Recipes and Here’s a Sample Recipe

A lot of people think Paleo diet menu are unpalatable and tasteless. Well, they are simply misinformed….

Truth of the matter is, with the right ingredients, even the most basic Paleo soup and salad dishes can be made into a highly exquisite gastronomic work of arts that seamlessly combine, flavor, balance and practicality.

However, during my initial foray into the world of "caveman" dieting, there was one major stumbling block that almost pushed me to the brink of surrender.

What is it you ask?

Well, it was the inadequate amount of healthy Paleo diet menu recipes that not only taste good, but also remain within the Paleolithic guidelines. Most of recipes I found online are rehashed meals with zero variety. In short, I was bored with those recipes!

So, how exactly do you locate plenty of deliciously healthy Paleolithic diet recipes that ooze variety?

An online bulletin board (OBB) is the answer! OBB is a typical cyberspace hangout of avid caveman diet followers. You'll be able to find lots of recipes that cover every Paleo meals from breakfast through to dinner at most OBBs

In fact, I managed to get hold digital copies of Paleo cookbooks that presented a total of 310 very yummy recipes and it was a Paleo diet OBB member that recommended it to me.

The cookbooks are great as they not only show you how to prepare each meal in a clear and precise manner; they also include clear full color photos as well. This is important as I hate reading recipe books that are too dense in text.

Anyway, here's one of my favorite Paleo diet menu recipes. Very simple to make, yet lick-smacking!

The Paleo Style Tortilla Recipe

Ingredients

1 Teaspoon homemade garlic powder
2 ½ Tablespoon water
1/3 cup almond flour
1 large egg
1/4 Teaspoon cumin (grounded)

Directions:

Blend seasonings together with almond flour.
Add water with egg and beat them together.
Stir everything together to create a thin mixture.
Pour mixture into and place onto oiled oven tray and bake at 300 degrees for about 15 minutes.
Slowly lift it out and roll cautiously.

How to Stop Gout With Apple Cider Vinegar

Here, you'll discover just how to stop gout with apple cider vinegar. Yes, who would have thought that something so plain could be so beneficial in your fight to stop gout attacks? But it's true; apple cider vinegar can help you to get rid of your gout symptoms.

Some of the constituents of apple cider vinegar can be very helpful in stopping gout symptoms and pain. For example, malic acid is believed to help neutralize the uric acid that causes gout, potassium and amino acids help to get rid of any toxic waste, and, amino acids have certain antibiotic properties.

So by taking apple cider vinegar, as a gout sufferer, you should find that your inflammation is reduced, pain relieved and there will be less swelling, therefore more mobility. The benefits of apple cider vinegar, like most natural remedies, vary between person to person. Some find fast benefits, other not so fast. You just have to experiment.

But it has to be raw, un-distilled, un-pasteurized apple cider vinegar. The stuff you get in the supermarket is for large scale consumption and is processed to make it look clear and good. Raw apple cider vinegar is, by its very nature, cloudy. You should be able to get this in health food outlets.

To drink, you should mix 3 teaspoons of vinegar in a large glass of water. It can be warm or cold, it makes no difference to the effect; choose which you prefer. Drink a glass 3 times a day. If you wish you can add honey to help the taste. Even after the symptoms are gone many people keep taking it because of the health benefits.

You can also use apple cider vinegar directly on the affected area. Just add 1/2 cup of cider to 3 cups of hot water. Some suggest 1 cup to 3 cups; you experiment to suit yourself. Either way, then soak the affected area for around 30 minutes, and repeat as necessary. You can also soak a cloth in the liquid and wrap around the joint if you prefer.

The key, though, is that once you have stopped the symptoms of gout, you need to prevent it coming back because frequently occurring gout attacks can end up with you having permanently damaged joints, and, possible kidney damage, apart from kidney stones.

So to stop gout coming back you need to look at the whole range of natural home remedies available. These are things like herbs, selected fruits, selected vegetables, certain fruit juices, natural detoxing, natural kidney cleanses, etc. And you need to address other things like diet, weight, family history of gout / arthritis, underlying medical conditions, regular medications, lifestyle, etc.

Diet, for instance, can have a marked effect on your gout. Gout sufferers need to avoid foods that are high in purines. Purines are compounds in our cells and in our food and actually produce the uric acid that causes gout. So a low purine diet is beneficial for gout.

You're in luck though. There's a special gout report available online [see below] that has all the info. you need in one place. It is what thousands of ex-gout victims worldwide have successfully used to prevent their gout returning. It also contains a special 2 hour gout pain relief program.

And it uses fully-researched, totally natural methods. So that you benefit two ways: (1) you get rid of your excruciating pain very fast, and, (2) you prevent your gout returning, so that you reduce the risk of permanent damage.

If you want to get gout pain relief in 2 hours plus prevent your gout returning in the future, then go to http://gout-relief-today.blogspot.com and discover how you can quickly do both without expensive drugs with their horrible side effects.

Raw Food Diet - What is the Downside?

Let us say someone has just now become aware of the harmful effects of cooking and freezing food and now wishes to 'go raw'. The downside is that he is barraged with warring camps of raw food enthusiasts. Some agree on a few points but take sides and seek to disqualify the opposition on most issues. That to me IS the downside.

Briefly, the major camps consist of:
Raw vegans who eat only raw plant food, but raise the temperature of 'raw' to 115 degrees Fahrenheit

Raw vegetarians who eat fruit, vegetables and sprouts, nuts, seeds, grains, legumes, eggs and honey but no red meat, and mostly no fish or poultry. For most vegetarians, eggs and dairy are included.

The Raw Paleolithic diet is one of the raw animal food diets. The Raw Paleolithic diet includes raw meat and organs but excludes raw dairy, grains and legumes.

The Primal Diet is a raw food diet which stems from traditional and primitive diets that include meats (fatty meat is preferred) and organs, dairy in all forms, raw eggs, honey, vegetable juice and some fruit with raw fat.

Most versions of a raw food diet DO cause benefits. Some benefit is caused by the automatic elimination of all processed foods and additives - for instance, flour and refined sugar under all names.

Some raw food diets allow table salt (or sea salt) to be a part of a raw food diet, not as a living food but justified by the fact that sodium chloride crystals are found in nature.

Most of the talk and internet presence is about vegetarian and vegan raw diets all of which need various quantities of supplements to enable the dieter to get enough basic nutrition. Many people can get along for a while as vegans or vegetarians. The main visible side effect is looking very thin. The main experiential side effects can be fatigue, lack of energy, muscles weakening & vanishing, and reduction of bone mass.

The history of body building has many important examples of what can be achieved on a raw paleo or Primal diet (reference: Muscle, Smoke and Mirrors, Vol. I - a complete history of body building viewable by Googling the author Randy Roach).

According to the vegan/vegetarian plan, mother's milk is the only beneficial milk - therefore do you need to bring your mother when you go away to college or move out to start a career (to say nothing of having her available in the high school cafeteria)? Other than that, even raw milk from a goat or a cow is not recommended on the strictly vegetarian/vegan diet, nor are other dairy products or eggs.

One goal of each of the raw food camps (vegetarian, vegan, paleo and Primal) is to eliminate any reliance on drugs or other medical procedures such as surgery. This is definitely NOT a downside in most cases, however the fact that the various camps fight against each other as to how this can best be done leaves the potential newcomer to raw food battle-worn and starved for some convincing evidence of the effectiveness of whatever camp he is most drawn to.

Another fairly general goal of each raw food diet is to reduce intake of toxic matter and eliminate stored toxins. The ways of achieving this vary quite a bit from camp to camp. The ways a human body deals with toxins include proper functioning of circulatory, lymphatic and immune systems through the lungs, sweat glands, liver, kidneys and colon. The vegetarian raw food diets have a close reliance on repetitive colon cleansing through a series of enemas and/or colonic irrigations combined with fasts. Some downsides include that this is time consuming - plus one increases one's reliance on these man-made solutions instead of decreasing reliance. On the Primal Diet, there are NO recommended breaks from intake of proper food - even for a day - and there are several natural ways of bringing about proper elimination of toxins. For instance, proper elimination can be accomplished through lymphatic baths (see We Want To Live for details) and natural methods of elimination through the colon, which don't also flush away valuable bacteria.

Some versions of the raw food diet are not helped by ongoing campaigns that only thin people can be good looking. Continuous and persistent ad campaigns show thin cover girls on popular magazines. Again the ways of achieving such thinness vary tremendously; there are many other ways for weight loss besides a raw food diet but in none of these diets is health given the #1 priority. In a truly beneficial raw food diet, health IS the priority.

One would think that if our digestive abilities as humans were studied, more agreement could be reached. This study has been done but the results have been kept safely between the covers of a book, thus are not well known & thus the debate continues. Email the author of this article to ask for the summary paragraph about our digestive abilities.

In summary, when one chooses to follow a raw food diet despite the downsides mentioned above, there are many sub-choices which require some due diligence. One must add in the time it takes to make or buy daily staples such as fresh vegetable juice and raw coconut cream. One must budget to cover the costs and one must find sources for various foods & feel right about whether or not they are all natural or have been fudged in one way or another.

10 Guilt-Free Snacks For Weight Loss

When you know which categories of foods are healthy it's a lot easier to chose healthy snacks. Contrary to popular belief, snacking is actually very beneficial. It helps to refuel your body, maintain blood sugar and energy levels as well as control your appetite.

Healthy snacking will help your body get the nutrients it needs and help you avoid overeating at meal times.

Indulge in these guilt-free snacks. Remember we encourage an anti-inflammatory, low-glycemic, paleo-style diet for weight loss and wellness. A body must get healthy before it can lose weight.

1.Fruit and Yogurt Parfait.Organic plain yogurt is best. Flavored yogurts have a higher sugar content. Instead, flavor your yogurt with fruit. Blueberries are an excellent choice as they have a lower glycemic content that will help balance blood glucose and insulin levels.

2.Romaine Lettuce Wrap With Organic Turkey and a Slice of Raw-Milk or Skim Mozzarella Cheese.

Romaine lettuce contains the highest nutritional and fiber content of all lettuce. Turkey is 94% protein which helps you to lose weight by boosting your metabolism and decreasing hunger. Adding raw milk grass-fed cheese not only adds flavor but also adds calcium without any harmful hormones or preservatives. A great source for grass-fed wild meat, game and poultry is at U.S. Wellness Meats.

3. Veggie Sticks With Cottage Cheese Dip. Non-starchy vegetables contain almost eight times the amount of fiber found in whole grains. Fiber is essential for a healthy digestive system. Fat-free organic cottage cheese makes an excellent low calorie snack.

4. Shrimp Cocktail Shrimp is 90% protein. Try dipping it in some cocktail sauce for a low calorie, high protein snack.

5. A Handful of Nuts. Walnuts are the best choice as they're rich in protein and fiber but they also contain a high dose of omega 3 fatty acids (good fats) as compared to other nuts. Healthy fats help lower your risk of disease. Omega-3s are anti-inflammatory, meaning they help prevent inflammatory diseases such as stroke or heart disease. People who are overweight are actually suffering from an inflammatory condition.

6. Celery Sticks and Almond Butter. This is a great combination of protein, monounsaturated fat and energy. Almond butter is a healthier alternative to peanut butter as it contains no added ingredients or preservatives and better fats. (peanuts are a legume not a nut)

7. Deviled Eggs. Eggs are an excellent source of protein and make a great snack any time of the day. My Guacamole Deviled Eggs are a great high-protein healthy snack with good fats.

8. Herring Wraps. Buy a few tinned containers in a few different flavored sauces such as tomato or tangy mustard, herring fillets are high in omega 3 fish oils. Don't but if they are in soybean oil. Try wrapping them in a few leaves of romaine lettuce.

9. Banana Nut Pop. Dip a banana in plain organic yogurt and roll in walnuts or coconut. Freeze. Yummy!

Bananas are a great source of fiber and potassium. Don't eat too many they do have a higher sugar content. Coconuts have anti-microbial, anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties and are one of the best sources in the world for MCFA (medium-chain triglyceride fatty acids)

10. Lemon Tuna Avocado Snack. Halve an avocado and scoop out the flesh. Mix with lemon juice and tuna. Serve in the shells. Good protein, good fat.

Avocado's are high in monounsaturated fat and potassium. Tuna is a nutrient-dense food, high in omega-3 and a great source of protein. Protein builds muscle which in turn burns more calories to help you lose weight.

And here's your BONUS snack idea....

***Smoked salmon.

Don't get salmon that's been smothered in brown sugar. Salmon is one of the best sources of protein and healthy fats on earth. Try to buy wild-caught, not grain fed salmon.

Cupcake Frosting Recipes

Royal Icing - Insider Expert Tips to Improve Your Cake DecoratingThe title 'royal' was given to royal icing after being used on Queen Victoria's wedding cake in 1840. Francatelli, the Queen's famous French chef, published a book in l864 in which he describes how to ice a wedding cake with a mixture of egg whites, sugar and lemon juice beaten together. He wrote 'use this icing to mask the entire surface of the cake with a coating about a quarter of an inch thick'.But, long before the above date this type of icing was in use. The simple ingredients, egg white and icing sugar create a dazzling icing, making it the perfect choice for wedding cakes. Dried egg whites can be used instead of fresh. Not only does this save having a surplus of egg yolks, but also the icing is whiter than icing made with fresh whites.Smaller quantities are best made either with an electric hand whisk,or with a large wooden spoon(again kept especially for that purpose). Begin by beating the whites until they are quite stiff. The consistency of the icing needs adjusting according to how it is being used. For instance,to 'flat ice'a wedding cake the icing should be the consistency of beaten double cream. If too stiff, add a few drops of water, too soft, then add icing sugar. To prevent royal icing setting too hard one teaspoon of glycerine can be added to every pound of icing sugar used. Freshly made icing may cause air bubbles to appear on the surface of the cake. Usually three thin layers of icing are needed, allowing each layer to dry before adding the next.Icing used for piping decorations should be well beaten, and recently made otherwise it will not hold its shape. Do not use icing which has glycerine in it. Royal icing for Run-Outs (Colour flow) can be softened with either a few drops of water or egg white.Royal icing is also used when making Rock Sugar, which as the name suggests is a way of making lifelike edible rocks. It is made by adding royal icing into hot sugar syrup, the royal icing literally erupts and hardens into a volcanic-like substance. And most importantly, most people love the taste!Icing a Wedding Cake With Butter Cream FrostingMy first most important tip is always use a very cold cake. In fact I recommend freezing the wedding cake layers prior to filling and frosting them.My favorite frosting recipe is called an Italian Meringue. After your cake layers have cooled, you will wrap them in plastic wrap and freeze for at least a few hours, overnight is even better.(Note) You can cut one cake to make two layers if you bake them in the higher sided pans, which you can get at your local craft store. You will need cardboard rounds, precut to each cake size that you are planning on using. No fancy mousses just yet! The cold cakes will solidify the buttery mixture quickly so that the layers will not slide around while frosting the cake.A crumb coat is a thin layer of icing that is used to seal in the crumbs. Once you crumb coat your cake, you need to return it to the fridge or freezer to firm it up a bit.Now for your final coat: Place the filled and crumb coated cake onto the turntable and plop a large amount of frosting onto the top of the cake. I always use a back and forth motion while turning the table. You should end up with some icing further out than the edges of the cake. It should be fairly thick, you will be scraping the excess off later. Some of the icing will form a ledge that is slightly higher than the top of the cake. Once you get the sides looking pretty good, start working the top edges. Be gentle and do not scrape away too much or it will make a divet. The final step is to heat up the spatula with hot water and then go over the sides one more time and the top once to really make it smooth. You can store your cakes in the refrigerator uncovered once they are frosted. Just make sure that there are no dominating odors, because the butter cream will absorb some of that.Practice makes perfect!!!! as my mother used to annoyingly say to me while I practiced my notes and chords on the instrument of my choice, the organ, believe it or not!!!You will need a turntable, a spatula designed for spreading icing, cardboard rounds, plastic wrap, a firm cake, a good butter cream icing recipe and patience. In fact I recommend freezing the wedding cake layers prior to filling and frosting them.My favorite frosting recipe is called an Italian Meringue. It is light and fluffy and not too sweet. (Note) You can cut one cake to make two layers if you bake them in the higher sided pans, which you can get at your local craft store. If you choose to do this, then cut the cakes after they have cooled, but before they are put into the freezer. You will need cardboard rounds, precut to each cake size that you are planning on using. Filling the cakes: For a practice cake, I recommend filling the cakes with plain icing. No fancy mousses just yet! The cold cakes will solidify the buttery mixture quickly so that the layers will not slide around while frosting the cake. The first layer that you put on your cake is called a crumb coat. This makes it much easier to frost without getting those yucky crumbs mixed in.The crumb coat does not have to look good because you will be covering it with a thick layer at the end with a final coat. I always use a back and forth motion while turning the table. You should end up with some icing further out than the edges of the cake. It should be fairly thick, you will be scraping the excess off later. Now work some of that icing down the sides of the cake gently while turning the table. Angle the spatula vertically, use the edge of it, as you turn the table slowly. Cheese Plate 101

Serving an elegant cheese plate appetizer is a must for any sophisticated party host. Not only do cheese platters look fantastic, they taste great and can provide conversation topics. Use these tips to create the perfect cheese board for your next gathering. Adding different colors, shapes and accompanying foods allows entertainers to create totally unique presentations.
Getting started

We suggest selecting about five different fromages per cheese plate. Gathering various French cheeses on the same platter pulls together different tastes and textures and showcases the depth of the French Cheese families. Be sure to include hard and soft cheeses and include mild and strong flavors. In total, buy about two-to-four ounces of cheese per guest. It's best to include various milk types, such as an Ile de France goat cheese and a cheese made from sheep's milk as well as cow's milk. Also include a bleu cheese and a brie to ensure the best variety. The different cheeses are shaded differently. They will add a sense of color and refinement to your cheese plate.

Select the foods you want to accompany your cheese choices. Different types of bread, such as baguette or flat bread, go well with all cheeses. Crackers are another classic cheese board choice - choose your favorite variety and don't forget to have different types for the different cheeses. Add some color with different jams and other condiments, spreads and honeys. Various cheeses have natural compliments for you to explore, such as apples and brie cheese - together they taste great and look even better on a cheeseboard! Add more color by including fruits and vegetables to your cheese plate - apples, pears and grapes work well. Presenting nuts can add further variety and snacking options.
Present your plate

Cutting your selected French cheese into different shapes and sizes is an excellent way to add pizzazz to your platter. Triangles, squares, rectangles and circles go well together, and you also can cut the cheeses into your own original shapes to add an artistic flare. The easiest way to ensure you have variety is to include different types of French cheeses, which often are pre-cut into various shapes like logs and wedges.

Try arranging your selected cheeses by the region in France they are made - our French cheese map shows where the different families of cheeses are produced. Leave the rinds on some and remove it on others to further vary the look of your offerings.

Pay attention to the actual plate. From glass cheese platters to sterling silver to wicker flat baskets you can easily cater your serving ware to the occasion - breaking out the antique silver platter can really add some elegance to a casual get together, while a less formal plate may help relax your guests at a formal celebration.

Small labels next to each cheese that include its name and milk type is a great way to add an elegant, educational vibe to your cheese board, making it more than just an appetizer.
Properly prep

Fine fromages are best savored at room temperature - so take your French cheese out of the refrigerator about an hour before serving. It's easier to cut cheese when it's cold, so cut them into the shapes and sizes you want before letting the cheese temperatures rise.
